Humic substances are derivatives of natural organic substances found in soil and, most important factor (for aquarium), many streams and rivers flowing in the forests. They are composed of humic and fulvic acids produced by the natural decomposition of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, etc.. One characteristic of moist substances is their dark brown color, which is responsible for the color of the ground. Soluble humic substances significantly increase the bioavailability to plants of multivalent cations (many of which are important nutrients), forming temporary links with their ions, and making their absorption more directly.
